CONFIRMATION
Confirmation at All Saints Lutheran Church is not just
about information but faith formation; not just another “class” but building
community; and not just learning about God but experiencing God.
Confirmation is held on Wednesday nights from 6:30 to
8:00 pm starting in September for 7th and 8th graders.
These nights involve four kinds of events:
-
LEARNING
- Learn about faith through music,
presentations and small group work on the evening's topic.
-
SERVICE - Serve others during events at All Saints
and in the world.
-
FELLOWSHIP - Create bonds in Christian Fellowship
through play and fun activities.
-
FAMILY -
Spend quality time with your family playing, serving, and learning about faith.
Confirmation at All Saints is a two year program – one
year of Biblical study, one year of catechism including the Apostles Creed, the
Lord’s Prayer, and the Ten Commandments.
In the spring of their second year, students affirm their baptismal vows
and are confirmed in their faith on Confirmation Sunday.
One of the resources used in confirmation is The Lutheran Handbook. In this
book students learn that Martin
Luther’s theology is grounded in paradoxes – sinner/saint, law/gospel,
hidden/revealed – and illuminated by a down-to-earth, everyday sense of
humor. The wink on Luther’s face indicates that even though theology is
serious stuff, we should nonetheless remember that it is not our theology
that saves us, but Jesus Christ.
The Lutheran Handbook, published by Augsburg Fortress, is given to
all confirmation students at All Saints as a step-by-step instruction of
theological truths and everyday faith situations. You can
order a copy for yourself though Augsburg
Fortress.
